Early Years Fun

Today is an ‘Early Years’ day so i’m volunteering at the local Primary School in the Early Years department instead of teaching Resistant Materials and Technology the Upper School. It’s my ‘non-work’ day as i’m volunteering to help me get experience with the little kids and it doesn’t really feel like working. Early Years is much more like fun!

Today was great. I spent the morning helping children draw their designs for a bookmark competition that they are entering.
The first part of the day I had to draw out five designs to ‘inspire’ them. Yes, inspiring 4 and 5 year olds is no mean feat!

I decided upon a rainbow, a painting scene (as in blobs of paint and a paintbrush), my name, dots and cartoon style ‘POW’ and ‘BOOM’ explosions. The children seemed to really enjoy it so i feel like it was a great success.

Here are a few highlights of the day…

  • One little girl who had just wet herself informing me ‘…well this isn’t so bad. I poo’ed myself last week…’
  • A little boy who has special learning needs wanting to spend most of the morning sharpening the pencil crayons with the ‘big’ pencil sharpener and sitting on my lap. Bless.
