Today the Indian Visa came through. Woohoo!
I’ll start at the beginning as it’s the best place.
Last, last Friday I ventured to London to finalise the Visa process in person. Overall I was very happy about everything, even though I’d filled in all of the forms wrong and generally mucked it up! The very lovely and helpful man behind the desk gave me all the information that I needed about what to do next and off I went home, content that my passport was safe in the capable hands of the Indian Visa Office.
Well, it’s all downhill from here!
The passport was due to be delivered to my work (aka the Upper School) as I’d been told that they needed to be signed for. As I couldn’t guarantee that someone would be in at home, it just made sense…however, it’s half term and i didn’t think about that!
I received a text on the Wednesday letting me know that my passport was due for delivery later on that day, so I went to the school, armed with a good book and my laptop, to sit and wait in the school reception. And wait I did. For five hours! No-one came to deliver my passport. I spoke to the school caretaker, who assured me that he would look out for the courier on Thursday.
When I received another text message the following day, I did not act upon it. I had waited around all day to no avail previously, so I went about my normal Half-Term activity of shopping!
I guess I should have listened to the second text message, as the courier came! However, according to the electricians that were working in the school all week, the courier popped his head in, and then left, without even trying to find someone who could sign for the package, and without leaving a calling card with any helpful information. How rude.
Later on that evening I realised that I had a message and so phoned my trusty courier who was less than helpful. He told me that DX (the delivery company) would get in touch with me to re-deliver the package, and gave me their helpline because I badgered him for it.
Obviously they never got back to me.
I waited until Saturday to ring the company and would you believe that I was on the phone for 50 minutes. FIFTY MINUTES. Before actually getting through to a human being!!!
Am I out of order to expect better than this?!
SO, basically I phoned the number that the DX courier had given me. Their answer machine tells you that if you are wanting to discuss a delivery and you don’t have a calling card, you must phone a certain number, so of course, with no calling card and needing to talk about my delivery, I phoned the number. What a plonker I am. I sat for TWENTY minutes before I got through to someone, and even then the idiot on the other end of the line was useless. So back I went to the DX helpline, where I sat for a further THIRTY MINUTES before giving up and emailing their helpline. This simply directed me to their ‘redelivery’ page, which I haphazardly filled in with the little information that I had been given…
HALLELUJAH. They arrived today…but alas, this is not the end of the story!
I had pre-warned the school receptionist that the courier may be delivering the passports today, so was content and happy that if someone came, it would be dealt with. How wrong was I!? The courier did come, but ten minutes before the end of my lesson, and apparently he required me in person with my Driving License. A fact which, up till now, was not made clear to me, so I panicked for the last ten minutes and prayed that he wouldn’t leave with my passports! Thankfully he did not leave. I was just incredibly flustered!
Well I guess the moral of the story is: if you want something done, deliver it yourself, in person and then go and collect it yourself, in person!
