India: Braless to Bundi on a Blueline

Waking up this morning with sunburn was not a pleasant feeling. Nevertheless, I got up and packed the last of my belongings, bound for breakfast and one last meal at the lovely ‘Milkman Guest House’.

Walking the short distance to the Bus Station thoroughly wore me out after yesterday. To be honest, any physical activity in this heat makes me feel so lethargic…it’s insane, I really can’t understand how people go about doing normal things in the heat!

I actually missed the bus that I was supposed to get on because I physically wouldn’t have fit. It would have taken me straight from Pushkar to Bundi, but instead I had to get one into Ajmer and then get on another bus that would be swinging by.

When the Lonely Planet guide said that the busses to Bundi were ‘…bone-rattlers…’ they were not wrong! I spent most of it bracing myself and wishing that I’d not worn a strapless maxi-dress, thus meaning that I couldn’t wear a bra (now you know what the title was all about). At some points I was bumped into the air and off of my seat, no joke. The other people on the bus didn’t seem worried or bothered in the slightest, they appeared totally oblivious!

As the bus drove into Bundi I thought that it looked amazing. I have yet to see if this is true, but first impressions are good! Lonely Planet says:

…a captivating town with narrow lanes of Brahmin-Blue houses, lakes, hills, bazaars and a temple at every turn…fantastical palace of faded-parchment cupolas and loggias rising from the hillside above the town…

Lonely Planet, 2012

I’ve high hopes for this place. I’ve managed to get a room for ₨350 a night at ‘Haveli Uma Megh’, which apparently has lots of ‘…dilapidated charm…’ My room looks like something from a cool old castle. I feel like I’m in a Sultanate (is that the correct phrase)…there doesn’t appear to be any hot water, or any electrical sockets either, but it’s got a bed and looks fairly cosy.
