Today was woken up by what can only be described as someone throwing a metal keg down three flights of stairs! It was about 7.30am and I was not impressed, needless to say I did go back to sleep, however it wasn’t a good sleep.
Taking an Auto-Rickshaw to the Bus Station I arrived just in time to get on a bone-shaker bus. As I sat down I realised that I was sat with the only other Backpacker on the bus: Katarina from Germany. She was getting the bus alone to Ranakpur as her travel buddy wasn’t well. We sat talking for about three hours…I believe I have found one of the rare people in this world that talks more than me! Once she had gone there was still another five hours in the bus! Yes, you heard me right, FIVE HOURS…which was hot and sweaty! When I did finally get to Jodhpur, the Auto Rickshaw man wouldn’t take me to the hotel that I wanted, telling me his Tuk-Tuk wouldn’t go that far! So I walked…up the side of a massive hill…eventually getting to the right place and given a lovely room with an amazing view over the city. The first thing that I did was have a cold shower. It took me a good 40 minutes to recover from the sweat/dust bath that was the bus ride! Tomorrow I plan to go to Mehrangarh, another fort.
I have become quite partial to a good fort; it’s like being in Lord of the Rings…one day I’m hoping to get to Eisengard.
