Today I began adventures in Mysore in the geekiest place I can think of: The Railway Museum! I really enjoyed looking at the cool old trains. They had old steam trains on show, god knows how they got them there.

It was quite funny as the equipment in the museum was quite old, a lot of it out of date and un-used due to modernization, however I thought it was funny because some of the stuff, the levers etc, were still used in signal boxes in Kennet, Suffolk, up until 2011!
If you look at the photos underneath, you can see something that looks like a big grey telephone, that is a machine that gives out ‘tokens’. These are handed between the train driver and the signaller so that they know where the trains are, so if the signaller has the token from one train, he wouldn’t let another train into the same bit of rail. The thing that looks like a big tennis racket is what they use to catch the token when it’s being thrown at them!

I also visited the Maharajas Palace today…it was AMAZING! You have to leave your shoes off and aren’t allowed to take pictures inside, but it was worth all of that because it is just beautiful! I took quite a lot of photos outside the palace, as you don’t have to hand your camera in until you get to the entrance of the Palace.
The original Palace was destroyed by fire in 1897, but work began straight away on the new Palace (the one which I visited). It took from 1897-1912 to finish the Palace. Inside it is really interesting, there is a massive hall where the royal weddings would have taken place, and lots of paintings featuring various royal processions on the walls.

After the Palace, I went into the market area of Mysore, it was so bright and exciting to look at.
