India: Travelling to Gokarna

The day began like any other normal day; breakfast. I decided to go to Auchan again. It was delicious 🙂

I went to the bus stop, still a little undecided as to where I was going! In the end I got the bus to a place called Udupi, to look at an important Hindu temple, and then, upon deciding that it wasn’t worth actually sleeping there, I got right back on a bus and travelled to Gokarna.

Upon getting to Gokarna I took the world’s most suspect Auto-Rickshaw* to ‘Om Beach’, which is supposedly where all of the beach huts and guesthouses are. I found one: ‘Namaste Café’. After checking in to a ‘single’ room (for some reason this means tiny room and not a room for a single person?) I grab some dinner before deciding to try and find the ‘Nirvana Café’ which is where I had intended on staying. I didn’t get very far as it is pitch black (and I really do mean pitch black) and the beach is full of cows. Some of the cows are black, this means that it makes it incredibly hard to see them: I almost missed a cow that was only about a foot away from me, not to mention sleeping dogs and cow pats, fun times! I went back to the little room (which wasn’t THAT bad really…apart from the bed being really quite smelly and the 1001 mosquitoes) and played with my camera…fun times.

*Okay maybe not the world’s most suspect rickshaw, but it was pretty random: I got in one rickshaw and then with no explanation at all the little man takes out my bags and puts them into another rickshaw…I troop along behind…then the new driver says nothing. We drive round the town and out up into the darkness of the hills, and then he stops after some time in what appears to be the middle of bloody nowhere! I am next to some steps and a metal gate that says ‘Namaste’ so I get a little annoyed thinking that he’s taken me to the wrong place! He hasn’t, you just have to walk to the other places on the beach front…
