Today I have mostly been: travelling all bloody day!
I took an Auto-Rickshaw to the bus station in town, getting there for 11.30am. I thought that this would give me a great chance of getting to Hampi while it was still light, thus removing any issue of being in a strange place and not having a clue what the surroundings are. However, my plans were squashed as soon as I enquired about the next bus. Which leaves at 2.30pm! The good thing was that it was a bus that would take me straight to Hospet, one of the nearby towns, and from there I could get and Auto-Rickshaw or jump onto a bus that would take about 30 minutes headed towards Hampi.
I boarded the trusty KSRTC (Karnataka State Road Transport Company) bus, seated at the front with plenty of leg room and manoeuvrability. I was told that the bus would take about 7 hours which would mean that I would get to Hampi at about 9.30-10.00pm. Not too late REALLY, however, by the time I got to Hospet it was 20 minutes after midnight and I was shattered. On departing the bus I was, as usual, bombarded with men wanting me to get into their rickshaw or to take me their hotel. I got a bit annoyed and asked them to leave me alone!
Eventually I made it into and then out of again, the rickshaw and was comfortably settled in the hotel room watching bad late-night television!
