India: Mumbai, Take 2

I checked out of the hotel and taxied to Arambol to waste a few hours before getting the bus to Mapusa so that I could catch the overnight sleeper to Mumbai. The bus journey was supposed to take from 7.30pm until 5.30am/6am ish. I actually got to Mumbai at around 11.45am, so over 15 hours later! I was so tired!

I decided to stay in the same hotel that I stayed in last time: The Bentley Hotel. I didn’t end up getting the same room, but it was just as nice. It’s very colonial and has a certain charm to it!

…the next day…

Today I decided to get a taxi for the day and go a little further out of town to the ‘Bandra’ area, which I was told is a little bit more fashionable and hip with the youth than Colaba and Fort, where I have been hanging out.

There’s not really THAT much to report on really, it’s got lots of shops and a market and I spent AGES in one of the shops called ‘Hab’. It sells haberdashery items!

I ate at the Hard Rock Cafe, a bit strange in the middle of Mumbai but still epic.

…and the next day…

Today we walked around Mumbai LOADS. I wanted to get a good photo of the Victoria Terminus and I needed to think about getting to Aurangabad tomorrow.

I begun the day with a trip to the Post Office

I was hoping to post my old camera home and all its associated shit. Apparently you can’t post electrical things from India, so I ended up posting everything except the actual camera. So I shall be lugging that about with me for the rest of the trip.

Considering myself incredibly arty and cultured, I took an amble round one of the Art Galleries and decided that I should do some more drawing whilst in India. So I shall be sending home lovely hand drawn postcards, right as soon as I find something interesting to draw!

Getting the train tickets was also a bit of a pallava! I enquired and spoke to a man and then he told me that he couldn’t book tickets without seeing a passport (?) and visas (?). So I had to get a taxi halfway across the city and back again in order to pick these up from the hotel (note to self…take passport with you everywhere…). Finally getting there and sitting down I realize that everyone seems to be waiting for the same window…grr…after 2 hours I actually had the ticket in my hands!
