In order to get my first train at 6am, I had to get up at the glorious hour of 5am! Not my finest moment: rolling out of bed and stomping down the busy main road (who has business to see to at 5am the day before Diwali?!) towards the train station in the misty morning light.
Finding the first train was easy and I was soon sat down in a daze, the train beginning it’s two hour slog towards Manmad Station. At Manmad Station I found a breakfast joint and went for a dish that was sort of like a bread with potato and tomato in it…
After breakfast I sat and watched the world go by on Platform 2 until my train arrived at 10.20am. I walked into the carriage with a slight apprehension as to what I will find, but it was lovely! The carriages were made up of six seats set into three berths with curtains all round…and they gave me bedding 🙂
I was sat with two other lovely couples and we all got on really well, chatting and playing cards! One of the couples was from the Czech Republic and they taught me how to play a game called ‘Raining’.
The journey went really quite quickly considering I was on the train for 15 hours…it was worse for the other couple because they’d been on since the previous morning from Goa!
Getting to Agra at 3am I sat in the train station for a little while and then went to Taj Ganj (an area of Agra) to find ‘Joneys Cafe’ for 5am for breakfast when it opened!
