Nepal: Trekking fail

Today I thought I’d get up early and buy my boots and then do a little walk around the lake here and up the hill to the World Peace Pagoda, but it didn’t really go to plan!

At first I didn’t want to get up as the duvet was so warm and the room quite cold. Then I finally did get up and out of the room I found a lovely café for my breakfast and then didn’t want to leave that.

Next I got distracted by the shops. It took a long time to get through the shopping, but I ended up with some new boots and some tops, meaning that I am pretty much set for the trek.

From here it was pretty much downhill! Clearly the boots are a little uncomfortable. I was trying to wear them in. Then I got annoyed when I could see the Pagoda but not how to get to it.

I did find ‘Devi’s Falls’ and caves. This is a waterfall named after a man who fell in it and died, taking his girlfriend with him. Admitting defeat, I walked back the way in which I had come, resolving to try again tomorrow. On the way home I sorted out my TIMS card (Trekker Information Management System) and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit so that I can actually go trekking where I want to.

Now all that I have to sort out is the insurance for the trek, as my travel insurance doesn’t cover me over 1000m, and a flight to Bangkok from Kathmandu, for the next leg of my journey.
