Boudhanath is one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Kathmandu. It is about 11 km (6.8 m) from the center and northeastern outskirts of Kathmandu. Apparently it is one of the largest stupas in Nepal…i think also maybe in the world. In 1979 it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with Swayambhunath, it is one of the most popular tourist sites in Kathmandu.
The Stupa is on the trade route from Tibet and apparently in the old days when the traders came through they used to stop here to bless their passing from their homes onto the markets.
The Stupa is said to entomb the remains of Kassapa Buddha.
