Travelling to Cambodia

So it has taken me AGES to get here!

I began by getting a bus from Bangkok to Poi Pet: the Cambodian border town, then I took a bus from there to Phnom Penh. I didn’t get to Phnom Penh until 3.00am so decided to sleep and then try another bus in the morning. From Phnom Penh I managed to get the 12.30 bus to Sihanoukville, which got me here at about 5pm…

To begin with, the bus from Bangkok to the border was really nice, with air con and a really funny karaoke video on the television….then it got really hot in the bus and became a little unbearable, however, I fell asleep for a little while and quickly got to the border before I even knew, so not to bad really.

At the border I had to get some currency exchanged and then sat down for a spot of unknown meat for lunch! I soon walked out of Thailand and into Cambodia with all my Visa stamps and on towards the bus depot.

At the bus depot I had to wait for a few hours until a bus came, and was told that it would get me to Phnom Penh four hours later. This wasn’t quite true…eight and a half hours later I finally arrived in the city!

The room in Phnom Penh was quite expensive, but I was in no mood to be picky as it was 3am in the morning and not a lot of places would be open to let me even take a room! I thought it was plush, I had a huge bed and a hot shower, cable television and air conditioning.

Although I think that there might have been a few ladies of the night in the foyer.

The next morning I was lucky enough to get straight onto a bus going to Sihanoukville. It took about four and a half hours and I was soon in the Monkey Republic Bar looking for a friend from home who works over there. Sadly Monkey Republic had no room for me, so I went to another hotel that was recommended by the staff at the Monkey Republic: The Ocean Walk Inn (also plush).

Again I had a hot shower and all the mod cons…I could get very used to this…
