As I have just joined their club, this morning I went diving with Island Bay Divers. It was great fun but I let myself down a bit by having a bit of a panic attack under the water…ho hum…
We dived at a site called ‘Kau Bay’, which is on the end of the Miramar Peninsula, near to Scorching Bay. The site is known for having a lot of floating weed. the remnants of a mussel farm and a sunken tyre reef.
We entered from the shore, which was a totally new experience for me, as I have only really dived off of dive boats into the sea before. The waves were really strong here, so I had to find a little rocky groove in which to sit so that I could get my fins on. I kept getting bashed over!

Kau Bay is marked on the map here with a red circle. We dived in this bay. I have put a smaller circle around Island Bay too as this is where the dive shop is actually located.
After the dive we had a little sit on the beach in Island Bay for an hour and then cycled home via Lyall Bay. It was a gorgeous day and as we passed through Lyall Bay it was nice to see the surfers hitting the waves.
There is a surf rental shop here and I have decided that I will try to get here as much as possible and rent out a surfboard to get a bit fitter and better at surfing.
