Wellington Slow Reading Club

So Slow Reading is a weird new thing I’ve discovered. Basically it takes a leaf out of school’s all over England and gets people taking part in ‘Silent Reading’. The idea is to schedule time in your day or week to stop and actually read, without distraction…

Here is a Guardian article about Slow Reading.

It was actually a little weird to be honest, I walked into The Library (it’s a bar not an actual Library) and there were people all sat down reading silently. I felt like the naughty girl who was late to registration!

Once I’d started to read my book I did feel that I was relaxed and it felt good to know that the phone wasn’t going to go off! I enjoyed taking time out to read. After an hour or so of reading a little man stood up and thanked us all for coming, at this point some people left, most people stayed and chatted to each other.

Overall I’d rate it as a little weird but I think I want to go again 🙂
