A little while ago I was having a conversation with my mum about what colour I was going to dye my hair next…I said that I wanted to just dye it back to my natural brown and let it grow out, at which point my mum said, “shave it all off. I dare you.”
I had a think about it and considered that my work was doing a ‘Shave for a Cure’ sponsored event: get sponsored to shave your head for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand…so I did it!
I managed to raise over $500, which is far more than I thought i’d raise.
One of my lovely work colleagues videoed the shave and I can very clearly be seen shaking and looking a little worried. I was mostly worried that my head would be an odd shape or look funny with no hair.
It was very odd to have no hair at first. A bit cold. My head felt so weird with just stubble. I was worried that my head would be an odd shape or that I would look really bad with no hair. However, as the hairdresser was shaving my head, she commented that I have a lovely shaped head. How funny! Of all the things that people could say, most of them did actually comment on my lovely shaped head!
It took a little while for me to get used to my lack of hair. I kept touching it and prodding my head. I don’t know why, but it just felt so strange. After a few hours, though, it felt really normal!
Here are the before, during, and after pictures:
