Beki Makes Things: I made a dress!

This evening James and I attended the AECOM Christmas Function in Wellington. It was held at the Boat Shed on the waterfront. It was all very exciting and we had a great evening.

I made the dress!

I made the dress that I wore to the party completely from scratch! It fits me. I wore it to an actual party with people who can see me in it!

I wasn’t sure that I would get it finished. It was a bit touch and go for a while! I followed Butterick pattern no.B6453 which was actually a quite easy pattern to follow if not for the sheer amount of material on the skirt section.

The bottom was pattern perfect. As in I followed the pattern to the dot. It was fine until I got to the part where I had to gather the material in. I did panic a bit there, but it turned out okay in the end.

So my skirt section is perfect, it has pockets, a zip and looks fine! The top was a little bit random. I started to follow the pattern but then realised that the fabric that I’d chosen for the bodice was not strong enough to hold up the skirt…so I had to improvise.

Overall I’m really happy with how the dress ended up. I think I might adapt the top section a little more so that I can wear it again…but overall I’m happy with it.
