Chickens!

This weekend we bought chickens.

We have been talking about it for a while now, but I didn’t realise that we were actually going to get them so soon! One minute we were sat in bed talking about it, then next James tells me that we are the proud owners of two chicks.

We have called them Enid and Ziltoid. Although, we’re not yet sure if they’re male or female. If they do turn out to be male (as in they’ll be roosters eventually), we can’t keep them. There is a council bylaw here that says we’d have to register…plus i’m not sure our neighbours would be very impressed with us if we had one (or two) roosters!

So far we’ve picked them up, taken them home and let them chill out in the garage, then the downstairs bathroom, and eventually the upstairs bathroom. They still need to be kept warm, as they’re very small and can’t yet regulate their body temperature, so we’ve been trying out a few places and seeing if the thermometer tells us we’re winning.

The upstairs bathroom seems to be the best place, as we can plug a room heater into a timer and have it go on and off at various times during the day and night, keeping the chicks warm and cosy.
