Today we upgraded the chicken coop, but we also had to put poor Enid to sleep. It was heartbreaking.
On one hand we were excited about the new coop and the chickens being outside and having a lot more space. But on the other hand, poor Enid was waddling about and falling over and we couldn’t do anything to help.
When we noticed that she was looking a little worse for wear, I took her inside and gave her a bath. I think all of the waddling and sitting about had left her quite soggy and dirty. After her bath she just wouldn’t get up. It was like her little legs just didn’t want to work any more. she laid down and was gasping and wheezing.
It just seemed unfair to let her keep going when she was so clearly struggling.
James took her outside and I told him that I don’t want to know.
Poor Enid.
