Wedding road trip

This weekend James and I travelled to New Plymouth for our friends wedding. The weather was amazing and the wedding was delightful. A great weekend all round!

I took Friday off so that I wouldn’t feel rushed in getting ready. I’m glad I did as I really didn’t stop all morning! James worked, so we left after lunch and had a really nice drive from Wellington.

The couple getting married, Lisa and Blayne, booked a book-a-bach for us to share with a few of the other guests, which I thought was really lovely. We arrived quite late and then sat and chatted with the others until we all fell asleep. Ha.

We left for the wedding after a quick detour for a late breakfast, it was overcast but I think that it’s nicer for the photos, right?

The ceremony was at Stanleigh Garden, just outside of Inglewood, New Plymouth. We all got taken there in the wedding bus (what a great idea!) which meant that once we arrived, we were just waiting for the Bridal party to arrive.

After a very short amount of mingling with some drinks, we were all invited to sit down and the ceremony began. In true Blayne and Lisa style, it was sweet and romantic with a smidge of new age (we had to take our shoes and sock off to ‘ground’ or ‘earth’ ourselves).

The vows were amazing and made me cry!

After the formal part of the day, we remained at the gardens for a few more hours to mingle and have photos. As one of the few people at the wedding that weren’t family, it was really nice to be on their list of people who they wanted photos with.

After the ceremony we were all bussed back to the city in the wedding bus to the reception. It was at a venue right on the waterfront, with a lovely balcony and a great view. We mooched for a while in the sunshine, and then food was brought out and we ate. The food was amazing! Lamb and ham along with many, many salads. I was in food heaven.

And the pudding! There was the traditional wedding cake, but it was lemon on one tier and ginger on the other, and then also cheesecake and brownies. Yum!

The whole weekend was lovely. I don’t think i’ve ever taken so many photos of James laughing and smiling ๐Ÿ™‚
