Promotion: Update

So I am loving my new job!

It was a little stressful at first, but I think any new job, regardless of the job, is going to be at least a little stressful. Changing jobs is a big deal!

I knew before starting the role that I would be required to take on a more decisive role within the design process. I wasn’t sure how well I would take to it, but I didn’t need to worry because I’m really enjoying that side of it. It also helps that everyone is lovely and I feel really supported even though there have been times where I’m literally just winging it!

In my really job (as opposed to blogging, vlogging or making things) I am a Learning Designer. So put simply, I design for learning. It’s sort of like instructional design but just for learning.

I am actually a PRINCIPLE Learning Designer, which means that I am in charge of dealing with learning design at a programme level. This means that I am part of a team that looks at what is needed when a development is planned and all the way through to publish. I look at the scope of the development and what might need to be included before it begins, and work with the Project Manager to discuss finances and hours and all those types of elements, and then throughout the development I have Learning Designers that work on each course and I oversee that. Bit wordy, but you get my point.

In the current development I am in charge of a group of seven courses. They are part of the Construction programme and are wide ranging in their topics. We have two programmes within Construction, one focuses on Architectural Technology and the other on Construction Management and Quantity Surveying.

I have six Learning Designers to look after. They report their progress to me and I help them to get the development done without issue. Obviously there is slightly more to it than that, but that’s the general basis of what I have been doing.

So far I have had to have a few difficult conversations! However, that said, so far so good!
