Things I am loving this week

This week has flown by again, largely due to me being VERY busy, and because today I did not work!

Things I am loving this week:

  • Crocheting
  • Pottery
  • Meerkats
  • New fitness classes

I have been crocheting this week.

I spent some of my birthday gift money from my parents in Spotlight on crafting goodies. I decided to make a crocket blanket that I can use at photo shoots. So far I have 40 yellow squares. I intend to make another 40 pink squares and then use these to create the blanket. I

A few months ago I went to take part in a ‘pot and sip’ session, which was basically a girly afternoon making pottery with friends and drinking wine (although I didn’t drink as didn’t as I was driving). The pottery that I worked on was ready for me to collect this week.

I ended up with a mug – perfect for coffee, a little sort of cereal bowl and a small vessel – perfect for nuts or small snacks that I had thrown on the wheel. Sometimes what you make doesn’t survive the kiln process, but I was lucky, everything I made worked out well.

Last year, when James and I got married, one of our wedding gifts was a Zoo Experience with the Meerkats!

This week we went and did this. It was hilarious. The little Meerkats are adorable but at the same time quite vicious. I have a longer post dedicated to this, but i will say that it was worth it!

This week I have also been trying out new fitness classes, more specifically, Pole Fitness.

James bought me a three session taster pass for my birthday and I signed up to the next available class, which just happened to be the Monday after my birthday. That was this week.

Oh my goodness it was VERY fun.

As this was my first class, I was pretty much useless, however, I still had fun trying to get into all of the positions and to do all of the moves that the instructor was instructing.

The class began with a basic warm up. This consisted of stretches and a LOT of arm/shoulder exercises. My shoulders are not the strongest, so I was worn out just by this! After this was some sort of shimmy-with-the-pole type exercise (I’m not sure what you’d call it). Following the warm up the instructor talked us through a series of moves:

  • Spinning around the pole
  • Climbing up the pole
  • Sitting on the pole
  • Leaning out from the pole
  • Inverts (going upside down)

I was okay-ish at the spinning, the climbing and the sitting. Obviously the more you do it the better you get. And the better your body is at getting into each position. They were quite hard on the legs though. The sitting in particular.

The instructor explained that with pole fitness you need to condition your skin to be next to the metal of the pole, because quite understandably, the skin is fairly soft and not very weathered. It’s usually covered up with clothing and not used to having metal next to it, let alone gripping the metal. So, again, the more you do each move, the stronger and more conditioned your skin will be and the eaiser it will be to grip the pole.

Overall it was very fun and I can’t wait to go back next week ๐Ÿ™‚

I also tried a stretching and conditioning class – which was pretty much just stretches for getting into the splits. Again, it was hard because i’m next to useless when it comes to flexibility, but I really enjoyed it and will go to more classes I think.
