Things I am loving this week: Long edition!

Another busy few weeks – I was hoping that life would chill out a little as we begin the lead up to Christmas, but sadly this has not been the case!

Work has really cranked up a gear. As some of you may remember, I changed roles in August; from Learning Designer to Principle Learning Design. As a Learning Designer I was responsible for getting learning materials produced based on instruction from the PLD and the Project Manager, along with Subject Matter Experts. Now I am the one giving the instructions and working out the plans for everyone else to be able to do their jobs. This means that part of the job I am VERY familiar with – having been a Learning Designer for almost 8 years – but part of the job is very new to me. It’s a very steep learning curve that I probably wasn’t prepared for!

Things I am loving this last few weeks:

  • Hiking
  • Roller Skating
  • Schnauzer haircuts
  • Kayaking
  • Christmas work events

This weekend James and I went to walk the Ruakōkoputuna Chasm walk. It was amazing!

If you go online and search for this walk, it doesn’t really give you much. Just one or two pages about how it’s New Zealand’s best kept secret. I would tend to agree.

We had to get up super early, and at the time there is nothing that I wanted to do less than get up and walk through a river chasm. But I’m glad that I did. I was beautiful, and just a really nice trip.

I have a longer – much more in depth – post for the Ruakōkoputuna Chasm walk.

Roller Skating with James.

So I told a little white lie and said that it was a ‘have a go at roller skating’ session. It WAS a have a go session…but Roller Derby.

James hasn’t roller skated since he was a child, and it was roller blading, or in-line skates rather than quads. He was okay, but a little wobbly at first. He did get a bit more confident and was able to skate round without holding onto the side of the skating rink.

This week the Schnauzers got haircuts and they look so cute. And identical.

They are nearly impossible to tell apart now, which is hilarious. Herman is 1.5 years old and Peggy is nearly 2. How is that possible!?

I did try a few times to groom them myself, but after a particularly bad incident of Herman wee-ing on me, I thought that I didn’t want to traumatise him and so we opted to get their grooming done by a trained professional!

Our friends John and Cecelia planned to go rafting and invited us along. As there wasn’t much water in the river, we ended up kayaking in two-person kayaks, which was hilarious.

I went with James and it was so fun! We fell out lots and ended up going down a lot of rapids backwards – not sure why – we’re not that well versed in kayaking, especially together, so it was inevitable really!

Recently I have had a lot of Christmas work events!

As I sit across more than one area of Learning Design at the OP, my Christmas fun keeps going! I am part of the Maintenance Team, as well as being a Principle Learning Designer AND I have a lane in which I am working on a big project…so I’ve had a picnic with the Maintenance Team and a Yum Cha lunch with the other PLD’s.

It’s been lovely actually! I’m getting right into the swing of Christmas.
