Where on earth does the time go?! I feel particularly old asking that…
2021 begun for me on a high note – I’d just got married and I was getting into a really good fitness routine. The fitness routine did trail off through the middle of the year – but thats okay; you win some and you lose some. I started a new role – still at the OP, but a big step up for me going from being a Learning Designer (a role which I’ve had for over seven years), up to a Principle Learning Designer – it’s been a steep learning curve!
This year has brought new friendships, both human and canine!
I’ve crafted and created a lot in 2021, but also started a lot that I haven’t yet finished.
I have got myself really into photography – I mean I did already know the basics, but I was being lazy and just getting away with the ‘auto’ functions and letting that coast me along. Now that I have better understanding of the actual functions of a camera, I think 2022 will involve a lot of photography!
Overall though I think that 2021 has been a good year – despite all of the rubbish going on with Covid-19. I’ve been mostly happy and I think that is all that I need to worry about.
My husband did find an interesting set of questions online that has made me reflect on my year in a slightly different way than I normally do. Usually I’m all about what I have done each year to better myself – and then what I have done in lieu of not getting around to doing all of it!
This year, I am going to think about the answer to each of the following questions:
- How has your definition of success changed this year?
- What were you able to take away from your daily routine, and did you miss it?
- What were you able to add to your daily routine, and how did it help?
- What are you proudest of from the past year?
- What are some simple things that added joy to your day or week?
- What was the most challenging part of 2021?
- What was an unexpected challenge of 2021?
- Pick three words to describe 2021.
- Pick three words you would like to focus on for 2022.
- In Te Ao Māori, they often use the hauora concept to describe overall wellbeing: looking at the four walls of the whare (your wellbeing), which are whānau health, spiritual health, physical health and emotional health. What tools have you learned that help you in these four aspects of your life?
- What book, movie or album meant the most to you this year?
- What have been your most important relationships this year and how can you let them know what they meant to you?
- What has been the biggest time waster for you this year – and how can you reduce the impact it has on your life, moving forward?
- What are the three things you love the most about yourself? How can you take care of the parts of yourself that need more love?
- What does a dream day look like for you?
- Did you get enough alone time this year? Did you get too much?
- Did you prioritise your own health enough this year (that’s mental health, just as much as physical)?
- Who brings you the most joy in your life?
- Who brings you the least (joy)?
- What is your biggest, boldest dream? What are the first steps you start taking to make it happen next year?
Now, thinking about 2022 and what it will hold for me, I do have a list. It’s not a ‘New Years Resolution’ List, but more like a list of thinks to keep thinking about as I go through the year.
- Exercise more!
- Drink more water…or cordial, or caffeine free tea.
- Blog more.
- Finish the craft things that I start.
- Keep photographing things.
Its a short list!
Mainly I’d like to get into a healthier routine and stick to it, I’d like to keep my family in the UK more in the loop with what I’m getting up to, and just generally I’d like to be able to finish something that I begin (I currently have five knitted/crocheted jumpers on the go, a rain coat amongst other things…). I’d also like to keep taking photos of people and things.
I think that’s a good place to start!
