The more that I sew, the more that I feel like I should actually start using the tools that they suggest in all of the books and blogs.
One of the first things I have found is that ironing a bust seam on a flat ironing board is nearly impossible (I have the burns to prove it). Therefore I need a tool to help. I need a tailor’s ham or a tailor’s sausage. I know, they sound like I have just made them up. Alas, I have not.
A tailor’s ham or a tailor’s sausage are generally used to help you iron (or press if I’m being good) a seam that doesn’t lay flat. The ham shaped one is wider and more squat, and is used for things like a bust, hip or waist, and the sausage is…well…sausage shaped, and useful for sleeves.
Randomly, as I was looking for another post on the Tilly and the Buttons blog, I stumbled upon a post documenting ‘How to make Tailor’s Hams and Tailor’s Sausages’
As it’s nice and easy, I followed along to make my own 🙂
Yay for fate (or whatever divine intervention brought me to that particular page). As I now have my very own bright pink ham and sausage 🙂
It took me a while to locate something to fill them with, but I got there in the end (Thank you Rozwyn).
As mentioned above, I originally found the instructions for these handy tools through Tilly and the Buttons. If you are interested, you can also find her on Instagram.
The original post mentions Victory Patterns, you can also find them on Instagram.
