Things I am loving this last few weeks:
- Studio Sasada Concert
- Hutt Marathon [10km]
- Change Fitness Pie-Ride [50km]

Studio Sasada Concert
Every year the music school that I attend has a concert. Each student is supposed to take part somehow, and this year I was playing drums on the song Black Velvet – last year was ‘Everywhere’ by Fleetwood Mac.
I was petrified, as the drum teacher had said he was confident that I could be there on stage without him there pointing at where I should be on the music…I was literally shaking!
It was all fine though 🙂
The band is put together completely randomly, so we don’t know each other and for the most part we don’t actually practice with each other until really close to the event. Which is actually fine. We hone our instruments in our own time and then when we’re all good playing just our own part, we get together and play together. It sounds like it would be awful but this is the second year I’ve done this and it really does lead to a reasonable song.
Anyway, it was scary, but as i’d done it last year, I knew what to expect. We played really well and I even had a lady stop me on the train this week and comment on how she saw me and how it was nice to see strong examples of good, confident role models!
Hutt Marathon
This is an event that I have never taken part in, so James and I decided to give it a go, as with many things this year!
As previous races, we chose to do the 10km race.
The weather was AWFUL. Like really awful. And I really do mean that. It was so windy that everything not tied down was literally flying away, never to be seen again.
Because of the weather, I was sceptical that I would get a reasonable time. At points I had so much headwind that I actually couldn’t move…so enthusiam did wane a bit as I was running. HOWEVER I ran the 10km in 1hr 11mins…that is only 5 minutes longer than my last 10km…so I count this as a very good atttempt. And given that at times I was at a standtill, or very very slow, I think i’m okay with my time 🙂
Change Fitness Pie Ride
Another event that I haven’t taken part in before, a 50km cycle around the Wairarapa felt a bit intimidating as we were driving to the meeting point, but it was a really nice cycle.
It was organised by Change Fitness, the people I train with for triathlon. There were about 50 people there I think, with a few not cycling but there for support and to make sure we all went the correct way!
I managed to cycle the 50km…well it was 53km in reality…in just under 3 hours, which is not quite as quickly as I would have liked, but is fine with me because I genuinely could not have cycled any faster if i’d have wanted to.
As I have still really only ridden the bike a handful of times, I knew that I wasn’t going to be the fastest person there.
Next step is to get on the bike more and get faster!
