Things I am loving this month: November

Things I am loving this last few weeks:

This will be a short one! I have been loving the 1/4 IronMāori event

1/4 IronMāori event
This event is the one that I have been working towards for almost 8 months…and I did it!

A 1/4 IronMāori is the 1/4 of a length of a full IronMan…so 1km swim, 50km cycle and then a 10km run. Because JUST doing any one of those is clearly not enough for me!

What i really like about the IronMāori, is that you are cheered and supported by people that you have never met – as well as those who are there to support you. There are just so many people lined up along the course route that are shouting and cheering for everyone that rides or runs past. It’s just lovely!

It’s a good introduction to Triathlons, I’m told.

Anyway – the event itself wasn’t actually THAT bad. I was least looking forward to the swim; swimming is not my best discipline, and my endurance when it comes to swimming is less than great. But I did it and it was fine. I’m not sure of my exact swimming time, but it was okay…I wasn’t the last person out of the water and I am okay with that!
Next was transition onto the bike. Again, not terrible, but I did have to go to the loo, which would have slowed me down a little. I did feel pretty good as I left the transition area and went on to the cycle, but I lost a bit remembering to press ‘go’ on my watch about 200m out of the transition area! Silly me!
The 50km ride was great on the way out (its an out and back again circuit) when I had loads of energy drink and fuel…at the turnaround point I lost it a bit when I realised that I had no energy drink and no jet planes left…but I persevered and it was fine. Again, I’ll never be the fastest person on a road bike, but I am happy with my time.
The run was HARD! I think because it’s the last leg (hahaha) and you have to do more than one loop of the track. I would much rather a one-way run. Going round multiple times messes with my head and I lost the momentum. It’s a mental battle that I struggle with when running. I much prefer a one way race!

Anyway. As I crossed the finish line, James was there to give me my medal. I was so happy that i’d finished. But then also really happy to have done it and to be able to say that I did it!

I was popped. I think I ate ALL the food!

Will I do a triathlon again? Yes! I’ve already signed up and paid for next years IronMāori!
