Photography: Week 8

I had to undertake research this week – it’s the first time I’ve done that in a long time!

Week 8

This week I researched two terms:

  • Contre-Jour
  • Chiaroscuro

Contre-Jour is a French term, and it basically refers to when the photo is taken with the light behind the subject. Backlighting in other words. Usually this is not something that you want in a photo, but sometimes, when you set it up properly, it’s a type of photo that can look really good.

Chiaroscuro is what you call it when there is a dark photo with a little bit of light coming in from one side, sort of lighting it subtly.
